Saturday, 6 March 2010. One Marina Boulevard. This was the first YP Coffee Talk event in the series. Organized by YPC Asia and supported by Young NTUC. The event was a success with more than 50 participants. I was glad to be among those who attended the event.

The camaraderie between the guest speakers and host was refreshing, and the professional experience that the guest speakers shared was widely appreciated by the audience consisting of undergraduates and graduates alike. It was a good idea to invite two speakers coming from different industries with different portfolios, as it made comparison between the two industries easier. Both speakers shared their knowledge of various topics such as the factors they look out for when hiring new staff, how to secure and perform well in interviews, the pros and cons of working in the Finance and Hospitality industry and anecdotes of interesting job applications.

The event gave me an opportunity to network with the speakers and the fellow audience in a pleasant setting after the talk ended. One speaker was kind enough to stay back for more than an hour to individually answer questions and elaborate on tips to help the questioner formulate his/her career strategy. Attending the event convinced me to sign up with YP and young NTUC to be kept informed of future events, which I believe will be worthwhile attending.
